Scripture of the week:

Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. "

Action Item:

1) Read about what it means to be pure in heart.
2) Tell one or two other people about this scripture, and ask them to discuss with me about it.

In first Samuel, the lord reminds us that he looks at the heart when looking at a person. Not how the world would look at us. So often it is a challenge to be pure in heart because the world where we live rewards the opposite.

Samuel went to Bethlehem to officiate in some priesthood ordinances. When they got there they were looking for someone God would want to be annointed and chosen to officiate. They saw Eliab, who to them was a perfect fit, tall, strong, dark, handsome etc... the kind of guy they would put on a TV soap opera today. Then here is what followed in the scripture;

1 Samuel 16:7

"But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."

Someone once said, character or in other words who we really are is who we are when no one else is around or looking. At the end of the day the scripture reminds us that the Lord looks at us different, and wants a pure heart. At the end of the day riches fade, our bodies get old, all things are fading, and what we have left is at our core, or in other words our heart.
